Search Appeals: Overview

Use the Search for Appeals screen to search and view the status of a STAIRS Appeal. The following types of Appeals can be viewed:

  • Invalidate (CAASPP only)
  • Grace Period Extension
  • Reset
  • Reopen
  • Restore
  • No Appeal
  • Rescore (Initial ELPAC only)

To open the Search for Appeals screen (figure 1), select the [STAIRS] navigation tab from the top navigation bar, and then select [Search Appeals].

Quick Instructions

  1. On the Search for Appeals screen, enter the search terms, and then select the [SEARCH] button.
    • Enter one or more search terms to display all Appeals that match the search terms.
    • To display all Appeals associated with a user’s LEA or school, depending on the user role, do not enter any search terms.
    • To clear any entered search terms and start another search, select the [CLEAR] button.
  2. To view a STAIRS Appeal, select the [View] magnifying glass [Magnifying glass icon] icon.

Detailed Instructions

To open the Search for Appeals screen (figure 2), select the [STAIRS] navigation tab from the top navigation bar, and then select [Search Appeals].

Follow these steps to search for and view a STAIRS Appeal:

  1. On the Search for Appeals screen (figure 3), enter one or more search terms, and then select the [SEARCH] button to display all Appeals matching the search terms. To display all Appeals associated with the user’s LEA or school, depending on the user role, do not enter any search terms. Select the [SEARCH] button.
  2. To clear any entered search terms and start another search, select the [CLEAR] button.

Table 1 describes the expected entry for each field on the Search for Appeals screen.

Name Entry Description
Organization From the drop-down list, select the organization (LEA or school) that is associated with the Appeal. Enter at least the first five characters of the organization’s name or CDS code, and then select from the resulting list.
SSID Enter the SSID for the student(s) associated with the Appeal.
Appeal ID Enter the Appeal identification number that was saved with the Appeal.
Appeal Type From the drop-down list, select the type of Appeal.
Appeal Status From the drop-down list, select the status of the Appeal.
STAIRS ID Enter the STAIRS identification number that was saved with the STAIRS case.
System Processed Date (From) Select the calendar [calendar icon] icon to specify the beginning of the date range when the appeal was approved or rejected by the system.
System Processed Date (To) Select the calendar [calendar icon] icon to specify the ending of the date range when the appeal was approved or rejected by the system.

Figure 4 shows the search results section. To view the selected Appeal, select the [View] magnifying glass [Magnifying glass icon] icon.

Appeals Summary

Use the Appeals Summary screen (figure 5) to view the Appeal ID, STAIRS ID, STAIRS status, Appeal status, and Appeal type.

Select the [GO TO STAIRS SUMMARY] button to view the details of the STAIRS case.
