Summative ELPAC for Grades Three Through Twelve (3–12)

To prepare TEs to administer the 2020–21 Summative ELPAC remotely, additional administration and training materials have been created and are now posted in the Moodle Training Site, in the 2020–21 Summative ELPAC Examiner's Resources course. View the Access DFA Addendums section. Additionally, all videos will be posted on the Spring Administrations for Educators web page that is linked on the ELPAC website.

Before Testing

Ensure that all students have their statewide student identifiers (SSIDs). The local educational agency (LEA) can supply these numbers through regular mail, private chats, student information systems, text, or some other way that keeps the number private. Emails are not a secure and acceptable way to distribute SSIDs. TEs and their students should practice using the secure browser before testing begins. The Practicing for Testing web page provides instructions for test examiners to practice. TEs and their students can also view the demonstration videos prior to the day of testing to gain a better understanding of how the test session works.

Practice tests can occur in a video meeting. TEs can set up a video meeting with their students and provide the time for their students to log on to it.

TE Resources

It is recommended that TEs for grades three through twelve download the Remote Testing Addendum and the Directions for Parents/Guardians and Students in addition to watching the videos.

Directions for Administration (DFAs) in TOMS

TEs will need to download the DFAs to proctor the Summative ELPAC. To access DFAs, follow the steps on the Secure Materials: Overview web page.

Prior to downloading, TEs should confirm with the site coordinator the version of the form assigned to the LEA. Form assignments for the Summative ELPAC administration are available on the ELPAC Forms Assignments web page.

This addendum should be used alongside the regular DFA for each grade level or grade span. The addendum provides a complete set of logon instructions and information about testing in groups.

Remote Administration and Testing Resources Videos

It is highly recommended that all TEs watch one or more of the following videos.

Parents/Guardians and Student Resources

It is recommended that TEs for grades three through twelve and site coordinators download the Grades 3–12 Directions for Remote Testing for Parents/Guardians and Students. Site coordinators may want to develop a notification to students and parents that includes links to this document and links to the available videos on the Spring Administrations for Parents/Guardians web page. The following videos can be watched prior to remote administration and are produced especially for parents/guardians and students:

The Day of Testing

TEs should have students join a video meeting prior to the assessment. This allows TEs to take attendance and know who will be testing. It also provides TEs the chance to check that each student has an SSID. If a student does not have an SSID, TEs can provide it via a breakout room, private chat, or some other means by which the student is the only one receiving the information. For more information about ways to provide SSIDs to students, visit the SSIDs section.

How to Test More than 20 Students

TEs may test up to 20 students in a single test session, per the ELPAC DFAs. To test more than 20 students, TEs must have a proctor (must be a LEA employee with a signed affidavit) in the same room. TEs may use two computers and open a second test session on each computer. The proctor can then monitor one set of students while the TE monitors the other. The proctor follows the TE’s direction and consults the TE when responding to students. Each session is limited to 20 students.

Speaking Domain: TE Shares the Screen

The Speaking domain for students in K–12 is designed to be administered one –on one. TEs will be able to control both the Test Administrator Interface and the web-based Student Testing Interface for these students. Students will need to be able to see and hear the TE as well as see their shared screen.

TEs should always select the Remote or Hybrid test administration option if administering the test remotely to students. A test session should not include both students testing in person and students testing remotely. TEs should turn off the students’ video in the meeting application and can optionally turn on their video in the web-based Student Testing Interface.

  1. Meet the student in a video meeting (Zoom, Teams, Google, etc.). Turn off the student’s camera in the video meeting.
  2. Start a test session (selecting Remote or Hybrid) and turn on the camera in the Test Administrator Interface.
  3. Copy the link to the web-based Student Testing Interface on the Session Information screen.
  4. Use a second tab or incognito window (recommended) and paste the copied link or go to the web-based Student Testing Interface.
  5. Log on as the student.
  6. After completing the camera, microphone, video and audio, and text-to-speech check with the student, turn off the camera in the testing program and turn on the camera in the video meeting. To turn the TE’s camera off in the testing software:
    1. Chrome: At the far right side of the URL bar on the page showing the web-based Student Testing Interface, TEs will find a [Camera] icon (Camera icon). Select the icon and the select [Always Block].
    2. Firefox: In the left corner of the URL bar of the web-based Student Testing Interface, TEs will find a [Camera] icon (Camera icon).Select the icon and cancel out the temporary permissions.

To administer the Speaking domain to students in K–12, TEs must do the following:

  • Read directions from the DFA.
  • Share virtually the web-based Student Testing Interface and navigate through the test for the student.
  • Record the student’s answer using the recording features as described in the DFA.
  • Enter Speaking scores in the Data Entry Interface.
